We check your request and describe the amount and kind of work as well as possible results that we think we can provide in your case. Along with our proposal we quote the costs for our services. You can then decide if you want to hire our services.
Costs for research are calculated on the basis
of an hourly fee of € 34. In most cases the costs for research in
archival holdings with easy access and routine investigations are between
€ 68 and € 300. You can also set a limit in costs or agree
to a step-by-step progressional plan. To better understand our research

You know a ship's name, arrival date and port of arrival and want to have a copy of that document to proof that the persons you are interested in is on that list.We provide a hard copy of the original manifest and mail it to you. If you prefer you can get a scan of that list via E-mail.
Costs are ca. € 34,-- to € 51,--. Also pictures and information on the emigrant ship can be provided for ca. another € 34,--.

You have a name of a passenger and some additional information (age, travelling alone or with family, possible year of emigration) that help us to identify a person. But you are not sure when this person came to America or via which ports the journey was done.We are able to find a matching entry on a passenger document by use of CD Roms, internet files, printed or microfilmed indices or by checking originals. We than provide a printed copy or a scan of that list and mail it to you.
Costs are ca. € 68,-- to € 102,--. If the case is "Meier, Mueller or Schmidt between 1850 and 1890" or given information turn out to be not reliable we might need extra research - time.

You want to find out about a place of origin and along with the emigrant's name you have some additional information (i.e. name of former German province, age, possible years of travel, family information etc.) that help us to minimize research options.We know about general migration patterns, clusters of names etc. and check ressources that we consider promising in your case. Providing that we can use name indices, surveys, church records, gazetters etc and providing that the given information was reliable we can contact local archives, find material/documents and provide copies thereof.
Costs are ca. € 136,-- to € 272,--. Additional cost of ca. € 50,--to € 100,-- might apply if expenses for travel, archival fees or fees for local experts become necessary.

You want to find out about a place of origin but along with the emigrant's name you have only little additional information. It just says "Wodtke from Prusssia, around 1900" or "Suhrkamp from Oldenburg".We know about general migration patterns, clusters of names etc. and check ressources that we consider promising in your case. In this case we need some etra research time to find the right track and to eliminate research options. But with name indices, surveys, church records we can finally contact local archives, find material/documents and provide copies thereof.
Costs are ca. € 204,--to € 408,--. Additional cost of ca.€ 50,--to € 100,-- might apply if expenses for travel, archival fees or fees for local experts become necessary.

Along with the desired information on the place of origin you want to obtain additional family information (i.e. siblings, marriages, parents, children, other family places etc.) to compile a family tree or genealogy.ConsultationThis requires detailed historical biographical investigations and will be carried out in close communication with you.
Costs are ca. € 340,-- to € 900,--. Additional cost of ca. € 100,-- to € 200,-- might apply if expenses for travel or for local experts become necessary.
Please note that a "S"-case can become a "M" or even a "L" i.e. if information turn out to be incorrect. On the other hand an obvious "XL"-case might be solved in less than our estimated time if our ideas about migration patterns, files, archival holdings turn out to be an immediate hit in your case.
And please do not forget: you can always set limits or agree on a step by step progressional plan according to the progress in your case.
Research on emigration and family history requires expertise and can be very time-consuming. This consequently can generate costs that might no longer be reasonable. In order to budget the expenses or because it is interesting (and fun too) you may want to carry out research on your own. We can then provide the relevant information - such as adresses and descriptions of archives and a description of relevant holdings that we consider promising for your purposes. Along with these information we give advise on options and strategies and provide a master-plan for your research. But we will not carry out the work ourselves nor will we visit the archives. We leave all his to you. We give advice - you do the rest.How do you pay?Costs for consultation only are usually between € 34,-- and € 102. You can also hire our services for a certain portion of the research and do the rest yourself.
We send you an invoice along with our results and reports. You can then mail a personal check or arrange money transfer to our account. No pre-payments or deposits are required.
